1 oz silver David Bowie coin, minted in 2021 by The Royal Mint.
David Bowie was one of the great artists of the 20th century. This rock musician and composer was equally successful as an actor, record producer, arranger and designer. His voice and the originality of his lyrics and melodies quickly led him to the altar of fame. He is an essential figure in the world's musical culture, but he is especially loved in the United Kingdom and the United States.
In early 2016, the artist passed away. As a tribute to his work, The Royal Mint launched a commemorative coin in early 2021 to commemorate one of the greatest artists in Anglo-Saxon culture.
His image appears on the cross of the coin. Around the edge is a small line containing the coin's specifications, which are repeated several times to fill the available space. On the back left is a series of stars in bas-relief, while on the lower right is the singer's surname surrounded by diagonal lines.
In the centre of the coin is the bust of the artist, who is shown looking out of the coin in a highly detailed design, especially his hair, eyes and lips, which look like a photograph.
On the face is the face of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark. The background is made up of small dots in bas-relief, creating a sense of depth. Surrounding the monarch is her name and the face value of the coin (2 pounds).
The David Bowie coin was minted in 2021 from 1 ounce of 99.999% pure silver, has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres and a thickness of 3.10 millimetres. If you consider yourself a lover of his music, you can't miss this coin at home!
