The Queen's Beast series is one of the most significant and historic coins that the Royal Mint has minted in recent decades. It was first issued in 2016, and features the mythological animals that, in the form of heraldic statues, decorated the opening ceremony of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
The latter coin is in the same style as the previous ones, with two distinct parts: the outer part, divided by a strip surrounding the entire coin and into which the characteristics of the issue are inserted; and the face, where the main design of the coin is found.
The face is the main design of the coin. This coin is closely related to the famous Tudor house, one of the most important families in the history of the United Kingdom. The Richmond greyhound is shown on two legs holding the coat of arms of the Tudor house, which is symbolised by a crowned rose.
The dog appears with his face turned to his right in a majestic and stately pose. It is precisely this part of his body which is the richest in detail, as his muzzle and ears can be seen in detail in a falling position. As for the torso, the quality of the animal's musculature is remarkable. A minor but important detail is its legs, in which the nails can be seen perfectly, the only element next to the shield and the face which crosses the central part of the coin.
The edge of the coin is simple fluted, with several lines running across it horizontally in a regular pattern and whose fineness is quite remarkable. On the face, the usual face of Queen Elizabeth II, with a background of dots smaller than those on the cross, which occupy the entire space of the coin.
Next to the coat of arms are the initials of JC, which belong to Jordy Clark, who was responsible for the design of the coin, both for the face and the cross.
