Australian Kangaroo silver 1 oz. 2020 coin from the Perth Mint, Australia's mint.
Encouraged by the success of other animal coin series, the Perth Mint decided in 1989 to launch one with one of the great protagonists of its fauna and flora: the Kangaroo. Since then, and after an excellent reception, they decided to launch an annual edition of this bullion in gold, and it is in this year, 2016, when they decide to launch this first silver version.
The design of the cross on the coin is particularly striking. There are two distinct parts: the outer part, which is darker in colour, has a background of regular, very fine wavy lines, with the name of the coin (Australian Kangaroo) at the top, and the year of issue, weight, purity and metal at the bottom. To the right of the coin we can see a "P" from the Perth Mint.
In the centre is the Kangaroo, designed by Stuart Devlin, in a jumping position and with a high level of detail in its coat and body, which appears in a foreshortened position giving the coin a sense of movement. The designer managed to focus on the kangaroo thanks to the coin's arrangement: a series of lines join in the centre giving it the vanishing point. The lines are joined on the outside thanks to other lines arranged in a triangular shape.
The edge of the coin is single-striped, formed by several regular horizontal lines in bas-relief.
The face of Queen Elizabeth II is imitated on the outside by the cross. It has the same background in the form of regular wavy lines, where the name of the queen, the country of origin and the face value of the coin appear. In the centre, we have Queen Elizabeth II in a design by Ian Rank-Broadley (we can see her initials below the image of the monarch), and the design of her crown and the pearl earrings stand out above all.
The 1 ounce Australian Kangaroo Silver from 2020 is one of the most important bullions today, or so its sales volume justifies: very few remain in stock from this first edition, and those from subsequent years are also quickly sold out.
It is made of silver with a purity of 999.9/1000, is 1 troy ounce, weighs 31.104 grams, with a nominal value of 1 dollar and its diameter is 40.60 millimetres.
