The Australian Kangaroo 1 ounce gold coin of 2020, from the Perth Mint, the mint of Australia.
Encouraged by the success of other animal-themed coin series, the Perth Mint decided in 1989 to launch its own coin featuring one of the great protagonists of its fauna and flora: the kangaroo. Since then, and after an excellent reception, they decided to launch an annual edition. In the case of the gold coins, the design is different every year.
The design of the animal is on the cross. In the 2020 issue it does not appear alone, but we find a baby kangaroo and a mother kangaroo, both on what looks like two palm trees, which start from the outside of the coin. The most striking features of the design are the uneven, overgrown terrain on which the animals are resting, and the fur of the two animals, which is presented in a tender manner. Their position is static.
The cross has two distinct parts: the centre, where the animals are, and the outside, with a darker background on which the name of the coin, the year of issue, the metal with which it was minted and its quantity, as well as the plants sprouting from the outside, can be found.
On the face, the traditional face of Queen Elizabeth II in bas-relief, on which we find, on a flat background, her name, the country of origin of the coin and its face value: 100 Australian dollars.
The 2020 Australian Kangaroo 1 ounce gold coin has a purity of 999.9, weighs 31.104 grams, has a face value of 100 Australian dollars and has a diameter of 32.10 millimetres.
